About Us

Sharon McClenney and Connie Harner Whetzel founded CareFree Home Health in 2002 to meet the needs of the elderly in the Shenandoah Valley. Their focus is for reliable and trustworthy caregivers to be available to those in need of care on short notice. They recognize that families are under a lot of stress and need help in finding quality caregivers. Connie and Sharon are also committed to building an agency where all staff are valued as contributing members of the team.

Sharon and Connie are both native to the Shenandoah Valley. Sharon received her RN degree from Blue Ridge Community College and has many years of nursing experience. Her focus has been with elderly adult (gerontology) care including dementia and Alzheimer’s and has had extensive pediatric experience. Connie received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Mathematics from Radford University. Prior to the start of CareFree Home Health she had worked for a Home Care agency for 14 years where her experience concentrated on Human Resources, Public Relations, and financial matters.

Our Caregivers

We value our caregivers as our most important asset – being the ones who provide care to our clients. We currently have approximately sixty-five carefully screened caregivers to provide quality services in your home. Presently, we have on staff trained Nurse’s Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN). Before we hire anyone we must receive positive previous work references. We also obtain Criminal Record Clearance Reports on each employee. All of our employees are bonded and insured. Our employees also receive continuing education materials throughout the year.

We were very lucky to be referred to Carefree Home Health by our pediatrician. Since becoming part of the Carefree family 13 years ago, we have had only the best home nursing care for our daughter. Carefree provides experienced and caring nurses every day and every night. They accompany her to school or the mall, or just stay at home. The Carefree Home Health nurses are fantastic. They also interact well with the other services we use, such as respiratory, physical and occupational therapy. We consider our Carefree nurses as the number one member of our team.

CareFree Home Health and Companions has been an awesome company to work with. CareFree has provided overnight care for my parents since January 2016. The ladies who come to their home are very dependable. and competent. They truly care about Mom and Dad''s well-being. The office staff are always very eager to accommodate scchedule changes and any other questions.

I have worked for CareFree Home Health for twelve years, first as a home health aide, then as an LPN. I was encouraged by my employers to go back to school for an associate degree in nursing. I am now a registered nurse working both in the field and in the office. In my twelve years of employment I have found that our employees have integrity, a good work ethic, and a desire to care for clients as if they were family...

When my parents needed help, I researched all of the services in Harrisonburg - this included a comparison of administration, costs and personal references. We've been using Carefree for several years now and couldn't be happier. Their caregivers are cheerful, compassionate, and industrious. The administration has been understanding of any issue we've had, been easy to work with, and have been super responsive in getting things done for us, and alerting us to any needs. Living out of town, this means a lot to me. Carefree costs a little more, but it is well worth it. I would definitely recommend.

My family has been acquainted with CareFree Home Health & Companions since about 2008. First for my brother, who has needed physical assistance due to injuries from a car accident as a young man, and later for my mom (79), who had a stroke in 2013. We have found CareFree to be a very reliable, trustworthy and friendly organization, owned and staffed by highly trained, experienced, personable and caring people. My brother utilizes CareFree services at least once a week, and has for many years. I cannot recommend them enough. This is a company that truly cares, forms real bonds with their customers and has excellent business practices.
